Square Enix has released the Gameplay video for its upcoming action-adventure game Marvel’s Avengers. The game is developed by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Eidos-Montréal, Nixxes Software, and Crystal Northwest. The A-Day Gameplay Video features the Avengers defending San Francisco in what will wind up one of the most frightening days for the Super Hero team yet.

The majority of the video occurs on the well known Golden Gate Bridge where Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Black Widow get a move on a mysterious attack interferes with the festivities of A-Day, a festival revealing another Avengers Headquarters and experimental Helicarrier innovation.

Here is an overview of the Gameplay Video via Square Enix:

"Let’s explore what you’re seeing in the video more closely! Thor, the God of Thunder, is the first hero to be featured in the full A-Day footage. With his enchanted Asgardian hammer Mjolnir at his side, he pummels enemies down with mighty force and brutal throws. One of Thor’s unique abilities is to pin an enemy down with Mjolnir while he continues to punch and kick his way to victory. Thor can recall Mjolnir at any time, which can then damage any enemy in its return path. As the God of Thunder, one of Thor’s electrifying Heroics calls forth lightning that will strike all enemies surrounding him.

Iron Man is up next! The Armored Avenger takes to the skies to fend off airborne enemies while expertly dodging enemy missiles aimed at taking him out. Similarly to Thor, Iron Man can fight in the air or the ground by using a combination of repulsor blasts, homing missiles, and his signature Unibeam to defeat any, in his own words, “B-movie actors” that come his way.

Once the threat of pulsar tanks arise, Bruce Banner is called in to transform into the Hulk, smashing down into the fray. True to the rage-filled nature of the Hulk, he can effortlessly pick up enemies and use them as a weapon to knock out any other surrounding foes. He can even pick up two enemies and crush them together in a savage show of strength to prove “Hulk is strongest one there is!” Enemies at a distance also have a reason to cower as the Hulk can unearth chunks of the ground and hurl them with devastating power.

While the Golden Gate Bridge is under attack, Captain America is assessing suspicious happenings aboard the Chimera Helicarrier. Upon being ambushed, Captain America dispatches his pursuers with his iconic shield throws combined with hand-to-hand combat, finishing them off with a concussive shield slam to the ground.

Finally, the villainous Taskmaster reveals himself to the Avengers and threatens to unleash a sonic bomb that could level most of the city. Recognizing the “freak with the mask,” Black Widow tasks herself with the responsibility of eliminating the threat and is successful in pouncing atop him as he flies through the chaos of the bridge.

After expertly taking out his jetpack, Black Widow uses her agility and high-tech spy gear to weaken Taskmaster, but he’s learned some of the Avengers’ moves, such as Captain America’s shield throw, via his Photographic Reflexes ability.

Before he can learn more, using her wits, Black Widow turns invisible to triumph over him. After saving the bridge by disarming the sonic bomb, she uses her Widow’s Bite gauntlet to finish Taskmaster off then leads the team towards the next threat.

It is already too late when the Avengers realize that Taskmaster was just a distraction. The Avengers on the bridge watch in horror as the Helicarrier explodes with Captain America aboard. Although they don’t realize it yet, the true villains that pulled the strings during A-Day was Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.). A longstanding threat in the Marvel Universe, A.I.M. believes that science, not Super Heroes, will save the world. Players will be tasked with reassembling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to take on A.I.M. in Marvel’s Avengers.

We still have much more to show and will be bringing the demo to destinations around the world for you to get your hands on! Thank you for all the support, for the feedback we’ve received, and for the unwavering passion you have shown for Marvel’s Avengers. We’re hard at work making the game as mighty as possible and are constantly inspired by you, the fans. We have many more secrets to unveil as we continue the journey to launch.

We’ll have our next big beat in October and more to reveal in the coming months, but until then, enjoy the A-Day prologue and keep sharing your thoughts with us."
